Department of Road Structures
Synopsis:

The course 136DSUZ is composed of 3 issues, which build on each other and complement each other. These are the area of transport structures (roads and rail transport - scope 3+1) and the area of urban planning and spatial planning (scope 2+0). Unlike the road construction and railroad construction sections, the urban planning section does not end with credit.

Transport Structures - Roads (R):

Introduction to basic terminology in the part of roads, history. Road Act and related legislative and technical regulations, their impact on road design. Design categories of roads and motorways, design speed, directional and elevation design of routes, cross-sectional layout of roads and motorways, earthwork - dimensions, shapes, drainage. Urban roads, division and marking, definition of MK space, differences in design, operation and equipment. Carriageway, division, design principles. Safety equipment, junctions and crossings.

Transport Structures - Rail transport (RT):

Introduction to basic terminology, Issues of railway crossings from the point of view of security, design and operation. Tram transport - history, principles of tram track construction, interaction with the environment. Metro as a system of urban rail transport. Basic principles and parameters, metro lines. Railway constructions - an introduction to the design and construction of a railway track in the conditions of the Czech Republic, the basic elements of the railway superstructure.

Spatial Planning (SP):

Teaching spatial planning and urban planning, spatial planning tools and procedures for their acquisition.

Requirements:

Lectures are not compulsory, but they are certainly a better basis for understanding the subject matter taught than independent study from the syllabus provided by the lecturers.

Exercises are compulsory - clarification with the lecturers.

Submission of work within the prescribed scope and deadline.

The field of urban planning does not have a requirement to submit an exercise as part of the DSUZ course.

Syllabus of lectures:

R:

1. Transport - division, basic types. Basic regulations.

2. Design elements - speed, visibility, directional and height elements.

3. Route, area, routing conditions. Directional curves and transition lines.

4. Elevation design - design conditions, max. and min. grades, elevation curve.

5. Width arrangement of the PK, cross section, earthwork, drainage.

6. Safety equipment on PK - distribution, functions, requirements.

7. Structural layers - distribution, functions, materials.

8. Pavement construction - input data, requirements and design of the composition according to the catalogue.

9. Urban roads, traffic areas, parking.

RT:

1. Basic terms and terminology, rail transport and rail construction; regulations and legislation; railway crossings – design, security and construction.

2. Tram transport and construction of tram tracks, basic design elements, tram superstructure.

9) Public infrastructure - public spaces;

10) Public infrastructure - public communal facilities;

11) Public infrastructure - technical infrastructure;

12) Public infrastructure - transport infrastructure;

13) Protection of the public interest and map documentation, limitation of property rights and protection of the public interest in spatial planning, map documentation.

Syllabus of tutorials:

R:

1. Design of horizontal alignment of the road in the specified area

2. Design of vertical alignment of the road

3. Design of the road cross-section with corresponding components, sample and working cross-section, slope and ditch gradients

4. Road pavement design, consultation

5. Submission of the project

1. Assessment of visibility conditions at railway crossings, visibility conditions.

2. Basic description of railway tracks and parts of the superstructure – rails and fastenings, categorization of the track, consultation.

SP:

The part of urban planning does not have any exercises within the DSUZ course.

Study Objective:

R:

The student will learn the basics of road design and pavements design. The student will learn how to work with project documentation and will be able to design (or assess the correctness of the design) a pavement structure for simple conditions.

RT:

The aim is to provide students with a basic orientation in the field of rail transport with a focus on issues related to the design and construction of individual types of rail transport.

SP:

The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic orientation in spatial planning and urbanism and information about spatial subsystems that affect the quality of the environment of settlements. A major focus will be on selected land-use planning tools and their acquisition procedures.
