Synopsis:

The course contains the fundamentals of diffraction stress analysis with a strong emphasis on the illustrations of the capability of X-ray diffraction to solve engineering problems.

Requirements:

11SPL1, 11SPL2

Knowledge of fundamentals of X-ray and neutron diffraction on polycrystalline materials

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Principles of X-ray diffraction 2. Non-destructive testing of materials 3. Load and residual stresses 4. Non-uniform stress fields 5. Elastic anisotropy 6. Stresses in engineering ceramics 7. Laser-beam processing, welding stress 8. Stress relaxation 9. Stresses after mechanical and thermochemical treatment 10. Residual stresses in composites and plastics 11. Practical work in laboratories.
