Synopsis:

The course is designed for students on the English programme. Students will become acquainted with the main characteristics of Czech (phonetic and grammar features) and they will acquire basic language and speaking skills. The course focuses on pronunciation exercises, simple social phrases, and oral and written communication in the most common communicative situations. The course covers roughly lessons 1-3 in „Czech Express“ by L. Holá and P. Bořilová.

Requirements:

no or very limited knowledge of Czech language

Syllabus of lectures:

Outline:

pronunciation exercises,

personal pronouns,

gender of nouns, demonstrative pronouns and adjectives,

conjugation of verbs „být, dělat, rozumět, mluvit, vědět, vidět“ in present tense,

verbs „jít x jet“

adverbs expressing direction/motion vs location

numbers 1-100.

Topics:

greetings, social phrases, addressing,

orientation in city, giving/understanding directions, means of transport,

food and drink

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Study Objective:

At the end of the 3-semester course, the students will have reached A1 (CEFR) approximately.
