Synopsis:

The course is designed for students on the English programme. Students will become acquainted with the main characteristics of Czech (phonetic and grammar features) and they will acquire basic language and speaking skills. The course focuses on pronounciation exercises, simple social phrases, and oral and written communication in the most common communicative situations. The course covers roughly lessons 1-5 in „Chcete mluvit česky“ by H. Remediosová and E. Čechová. At the end of the course, the students will have reached A1 (CEFR) approximately.

Requirements:

zero or very limited knowledge of Czech language

Syllabus of lectures:

Outline:

pronounciation exercises,

greetings, social phrases,

noun and adjective singular declensions and the respective prepositions,

personal and possessive pronouns,

numerals 1-1000,

conjugation of verbs in present tense, verb aspect, basic irregular verbs (být, mít, chtít, jít, znát, vědět),

short speeches, writing of shorter texts

Topics: introduction of yourself; a room description; my family; daily routine; countries and their inhabitants; Prague, towns and cities, giving directions

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Study Objective:

At the end of the course, the students will have reached A1 (CEFR) approximately.
