With the link to P1 contents, the course further develops language skills. Focus is put on reading popular science texts and on oral communication on given topics. Features typical of technical and scientific communication are stressed (passive voice, nominalization, word formation).

Topics: physics, Internet, French scientists in the history, engineering description, function, instruction for use.
Further topics from lecture notes (ondes, chaleur, température, nucléaire , chimie, lasers, vitesse de lumière, nouvelles unités).
La France: administrative division, geography, regions, francophony .
Grammar: passive voice, participial clauses, subordinate clauses, gerund, nominalization, verb formation. Compound tenses, irregular verbs - systemization. Use of prepositions after verbs when different form the mother tongue.

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus

Knowledge:
Knowledge of morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, namely: verb structures for speaking about the past and expressing possile, unreal and subjective states and actions. Compound tenses. Word formation. Infinitive and participle clauses, gerund, passivization. Pronouns review and practice. Vocabulary expansion with particular stress on specific and technical vocab. Pronunciation and spelling developed together with new vocab and grammar.
Skills:
Application of acquired knowledge in everyday communication and in more professional contexts: reading of general, popular science and technical texts with a dictionary, looking for specific information, summary. Correct oral communication in social environment and on technical topics(monologue and discussion), including student´s specialization. Writing of : a paper, transactional letter.
Usage of larger and more accurate vocabulary, idioms and varied grammar structures. Care of the style and spelling.
Qualify for admission to the higher level course.
