Synopsis:

The course is designed for students with previous knowledge of Russian from secondary schools. Students are supposed to know the Russian alphabet (both printed and handwritten), basic vocabulary for communication in everyday situations (introductions, socializing, greetings, shopping for food and objects of everyday need, asking the way and giving directions), they can use basic grammar structures (verbal and nominal forms, irregular verbs, pronouns). The initial knowledge corresponds to the achievement level of the RZ2 course. The contents and scope of the course correspond approximately to the RZ3 course, but for half of the time allotted in the timetable.

Syllabus of lectures:

Due to the minimum number of students in intermediate and advanced courses of Russian, there are individual plans of study combining independent work (RP courses) with attending higher level courses for beginners (especially RM courses).

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Study Objective:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, particularly singular and plural nouns, adjective declension, numerals, expressing dates, modal verbs, conjunctions; lexis related to shopping, travelling, socialising, appearance, clothing, human character.

Skills:

To use the acquired knowledge in everyday communication and in more professional contexts, namely to distinguish intonation patterns in speech, use correct grammar structures, express views; inform about Prague, Moscow, Petersburg, the faculty and studies; describe the appearance and qualities of a person.
