Synopsis:

The course is based on RP1. It expands grammatical structures important for understanding technical texts (verbal adjectives, participles, passives, verb aspects, specific syntactic structures). Stress is put on independent oral and written communication.

Requirements:

Knowledge acquired in course RP1

Mastery of the material covered in the syllabus for the given semester.

Active participation in class.

Regular attendance, i.e. a maximum of 3 absences per semester (or 6 absences for beginner courses). In justified cases, absences are assessed individually.

Proper preparation for each class, even in the case of

previous absences. Each absence must be made up for (e.g., with a written assignment).

Independent completion and timely submission of all written

assignments.

Final semester test with a minimum score of 60%. Without the express permission of the instructor, students may not use any aids during the test.

In case of failure, the credit test may be repeated once. If the student fails the credit test on the second attempt, they must re-enroll in the course in the following academic year.

Students may take the exam after completing all courses and obtaining the relevant credits (5 courses at the Z level, 3 courses at the M and P levels). The exam consists of a written and an oral part.

Syllabus of lectures:

Due to the minimum number of students in intermediate and advanced courses of Russian, there are individual plans of study combining independent work (RP courses) with attending higher level courses for beginners (especially RM courses). Study plans for very advanced students are dealt with individually.

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, namely: grammar typical of professional style of science (passives, perfectivity, verbal adjectives, gerunds), vocabulary from the area of economics, technology, job offer, revision of important idioms

Skills:

their application in everyday communication and in more professional contexts, namely:

to read and interpret specialized texts, translate and summarize, find important information, express opinion orally and in writing, write a formal letter and CV
