Synopsis:

Course XSZ1 is the first stage of the five-semester programme of Spanish studies; during the first stage the students will master phonetics and fundamental grammar structures and will be able to communicate at an elementary level on topics of everyday life. They will acquire and extend fundamental vocabulary of general Spanish and will develop it.

Requirements:

The student is expected to have very limited or even no knowledge of Spanish.

Active participation in class is required, as well as regular attendance, i.e. a maximum of 6 absences per semester. In justified cases, absences are assessed individually.

Students must be prepared for each lesson. This means that they must have the necessary materials with them each week, including pen, paper and class materials or bring a notebook/tablet to access them electronically. Independent completion and timely submission of all written assignments is also expected.

The zápočet will be based on the material covered throughout the semester. The exercises will closely reflect those practised during the lessons, including listening, reading, vocabulary, grammar, and short writing tasks. Without the express permission of the instructor, students may not use any aids during the test.

A minimum of 60% is required to pass. If unsuccessful, students will be offered a second attempt. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the need to retake the course from the beginning.

Students may take the exam after completing all courses and obtaining the relevant credits (5 courses at the Z level). The exam consists of a written and an oral part.

Knowledge of fundamentals of morphology, lexis and especially phonetics at the level appropriate to the course.

Skills:

To make use of acquired knowledge and skills in easy oral and written communication on topics covered by the programme.
