Synopsis:

The course develops the topics covered in CESM1 and is then focused on more difficult grammar phenomena. It practices writing, speaking, and reading skills and trains the student in understanding common abbreviations, abbreviated words, and mathematical terms and formulas.

Requirements:

competence at CESM1 level

Syllabus of lectures:

abbreviations, verb phrases, relative clauses, punctuation, numerals, future tense (perfect and imperfect aspect), past tense, comparison of adjectives and adverbs, vocabulary exercises

Texts: my family and country, the Czech Republic, Prague, mathematics, physics, languages at the faculty

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Study Objective:

Knowledge:

Morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, particularly declension of nouns and pronouns, future and past tense, subordinate clauses, punctuation, verb patterns, word formation, definitions.

Skills:

To communicate at an adequate level about the student´s country of origin and the Czech Republic, read mathematical symbols and expressions, characterise mathematics as a branch of science. To write short formal reports or e-mails/letters to teachers or staff of other institutions.

To qualify for admission to the higher level course, to extend the knowledge of technical language.
