Synopsis:

The subject is intended for students of the master's program Civil Engineering, deepens the knowledge acquired in the subject 134YNKS. Extension of theoretical knowledge in the field of stability of glass beams, columns and walls. Principles of designing structural elements made of glass according to normative documents, experimental verification of material properties of glass, safety glass, use of software support for designing.

Requirements:

No prerequisites.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Experimental verification of material properties of glass, safety glass - safety class.

2. Design principles of insulating double-glazed and triple-glazed windows, thermal shock - causes.

3. Principles of the design of load-bearing glass structures - classes of consequences, combination of loads, accident situations

3. Laminated glasses loaded perpendicular to the plane - design models, use of the finite element method.

4.Stability of structural elements made of glass loaded by compression and bending, a combination of stresses.

5. Stability of bearing walls loaded by compression and shear

6. Bolted joints - principles of design, numerical modeling of mechanical joints.

7. Examples of realized constructions

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Design and assessment of insulating double glazing - manual calculation.

2. Design and assessment of insulating double glazing using software.

3. Design and assessment of a walkable glass plate supported at points - manual calculation.

4. Design and assessment of a point-supported walkable glass plate using software.

5. Design and assessment of the glass awning.

6. Laboratory - measurement of stress in thermally hardened glasses.
