Synopsis:

The content of the subject are the basics of load-bearing concrete structures design and the design methodology according to valid standards, including the determination of load effects. The properties of concrete, the production and testing of concrete, the properties of concrete reinforcement and its interaction with concrete are discussed. Design and reinforcement of concrete structures for basic types of loading (bending, shear, pressure) are the main part of this course. An introduction to serviceability limit states is in the end of this course. The course follows the introductory subject of Civil Engineering program (Structural Mechanics, Elasticity and Strength, Building Materials, Building Structures).

2. Type a properties of concrete

3. Reinforcement for concrete structures

4. Principles of designing load-bearing structures, limit states

5. Bending I - behaviour of reinforced concrete elements, stress, reasons of failure

6. Bending II - moment resistance

7. Shear - variants of failure, design methods, shear reinforcement

8. Reinforcement of concrete plates and beams, reinforcement drawings, formwork drawings

9. Concrete columns and walls - design principles, reinforcement

10. Interaction N+M - load-bearing capacity, interaction diagram

11. Serviceability limit states - introduction, simplified methods

12. Technology of concrete - composition, production, testing, specification

1. Load calculation - monolithic construction

2. Load calculation - precast construction

3. Design of dimensions of structural elements, formwork sketch

4. Load and internal forces of the plate and beams

5. Design and assessment of plate reinforcement

6. Drawing of plate reinforcement, design and assessment of longitudinal reinforcement in beams

7. Design and assessment of shear reinforcement in beams

8. Reinforcement drawing in beams

9. Formwork drawing

10. Design of reinforced concrete column

11. Assessment of reinforced concrete column

12. Assessment of bending slenderness of elements

Study Objective:

The aim of this course is basic knowledge about loading and behaviour of reinforced concrete structures. It includes the basic mechanical properties of materials (concrete and reinforcement) and the structure response to a specific type of stress. The course introduces to concrete structure design and basic drawing of concrete structures. These knowledges are necessary to following subjects at the Department of Concrete and Masonry Structures and structural projects.
