Department of Nuclear Reactors
Synopsis:

The course provides advanced knowledge of nuclear reactor theory and operation. The theoretical part covers reactor physics, experimental neutron physics, and operational reactor physics. In addition to theoretical lectures, the course includes practical training using the CoSi nuclear power plant start-up simulator.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

Lectures:

1.Introduction to pressurized nuclear power plants (1 lecture)

2.Fundamentals of nuclear reactor physics (2 lectures)

3.Nuclear reactor kinetics and dynamics (1 lecture)

4.Online neutron detection at nuclear power plants (1 lecture)

5.Fundamentals of experimental neutron physics (2 lectures)

Syllabus of tutorials:

Practices at CoSi:

1.Introduction to CoSi system (1 practice)

2.Approach to critical state (1 practice)

3.Control rod calibration curve determination (1 practice)

4.Nuclear reactor feedbacks analysis (1 practice)

5.Core power distribution analysis (1 practice)

Study Objective:

After successfully completing the course and passing the final exam, students will acquire a fundamental understanding of nuclear reactor theory, experimental neutron physics, reactor physics, and neutron detection. Students will be introduced to physical start-up test procedures at a nuclear power plant, and their theoretical knowledge will be verified through practical training on the CoSi simulator.

Study materials:

1.KHNP: Core Simulator (CoSi) manual will be provided

2.Suk, P. and Déloye, L.: APR1000 Startup Sequences Using CoSi, 2025, Department of Nuclear Reactors, FNSPE, CTU will be provided

3.Reuss, P.: Neutron Physics, EDP sciences, 2008, ISBN 2759800415,

4.Brennen, C. E.: An Introduction to Nuclear Power Generation, Dankat Publishing Company, 2005
