The course introduces students to basic terminology, principles, models, and tools for using geographic information systems (GIS) in various applications related to civil engineering, spatial planning, and landscape management. Emphasis is placed on practical work with spatial data, including their acquisition, processing, analysis, and visualisation. Through model tasks, students learn basic methods of vector and raster spatial analysis, working with digital terrain models, visibility analysis, and 3D visualisation. The course is taught primarily using ArcGIS Pro.
- Requirements:

Attendance at practical classes is recommended. To receive course credit, students must complete and submit either one A3 map poster or a web mapping application presenting the results of one model task of their choice. The model tasks are completed as part of the practical classes and are therefore carried out predominantly during class sessions.

- Study Objective:

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
understand the basic principles of GIS and different types of spatial data;
acquire and prepare spatial data for solving a simple task;
use basic tools for vector and raster spatial analysis;
work with a digital terrain model and perform basic visibility analysis;
present and interpret the results of GIS analyses in 2D and 3D environments;
create a simple cartographic output.
