Synopsis:

The course introduces key concepts, principles, and functions of management in the context of modern organizations. Emphasis is placed on understanding the management cycle (planning, organizing, decision-making, and control), developing a vision, mission, and values, and the ability to lead people effectively. Students will learn about various forms of organizational structure, change management, and the importance of goals in strategic management. The course covers current topics such as internal communication, the use of social networks, and the role of artificial intelligence in management. The intention is to equip students with the basics of the theoretical framework and practical skills for working in a managerial environment.

Requirements:

Credit (max. 20 points)

- minimum 80% participation in seminars,

- preparation and presentation of a team seminar paper.

The topic of the seminar paper is agreed upon at the first seminar. The seminar paper is a team paper and prepared by a group of two to three members.

The paper is presented at the seminar, where feedback is provided on its content and form of preparation.

The final version of the seminar paper is uploaded to Moodle.

Exam (max. 80 points)

The exam includes a midterm and a final test.

A maximum of 40 points can be obtained from each.

The tests are written in Moodle.

The midterm test is written in the 7th week of the teaching period,

The final test is written during the exam period.

It is necessary to register for both tests in KOS.

Grade:

A 90-100 points

B 80-89 points

C 70-79 points

D 60-69 points

E 50-59 points

F less than 50 points

Syllabus of tutorials:

In the introductory seminar, students will form small teams of two to three members. Throughout the semester, each team will prepare a presentation that, from a managerial perspective, describes a selected existing or fictitious company in relation to specific management topics covered in the lectures. The final seminar will consist of each teams presentation of their work, followed by a defense and discussion. Seminars typically combine case studies on specific topics with subsequent development of the topic into each teams own presentation for their chosen company.

1) Introduction, Mission, Vision, Values

Case studies: mission statements, visions, and corporate values

Output: definition of own mission, vision, and values

2) Corporate Culture and Stakeholder Analysis

Case studies: identification of stakeholders, definition of cultural principles and expected behavior

Output: stakeholder map, description of corporate culture

3) Planning and Organizing

Case studies: setting milestones, defining tasks, and proposing a basic organizational structure

Output: project timeline

4) Strategic Goals and Success Measurement

Case studies: formulation of strategic goals (SMART) and proposal of measurement methods

Output: own KPIs and methodology for measuring them

5) Organizational Structure of the Company

Case studies: analysis of different types of organizational structures, proposal of a structure for a company/project with justification

Output: organizational chart including specification of competences

6) Leadership and Motivation

Case studies: role of a leader in a team, leadership styles

Output: proposal of own leadership style, team motivation plan

7) Presentation and Defense

Presentations by individual teams

Study Objective:

The aim is to present management as a key role in organizations using selected key topics. The lectures cover the transfer of knowledge about basic theoretical management concepts and their role in organizations. The emphasis is on understanding the management cycle, formulating the mission, vision, and values of the organization, creating goals and strategic actions, structuring the organization, and implementing organizational changes. The subject also includes the current state of knowledge about leading people, developing team cooperation, and effective internal communication, including the role of social networks within the organization. The exercises emphasize practical solutions to selected management problems through individual and team tasks, allowing students to apply the knowledge they have acquired to real or simulated practical situations.
