Synopsis:

Status quo and trends in telecommunications systems applied in cyber infrastructure, technical, economical and legal aspects of telecommunications networks design and services provisioning, identification and quantification of hiererchical telecommunications networks and services performance, telecommunication services dedicated for transport and specifically Smart Cities solutions.

Requirements:

First level degree in the technical sciences on level of the first level Faculty of Transport Sciences degree, specifically in athematics and physics .

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Telecommunication systems as part of cyber infrastructure

2.Basic concepts and arrangement of telecommunication networks (telecommunication networks and services, telecommunication networks, link/packet principles, physical transmission layer, coding, modulation, network hierarchy)

3.Backbone and access telecommunication systems, (backbone solutions, terrestrial access networks),

4.Data systems (RM OSI and TCP/IP, TCP/IP and its role in telecommunications, Ethernet protocol, genesis and its current role in telecommunications, quality-controlled data telecommunications services, VPN, Internet/Intranet/Extranet,

5.Wireless access systems (WiFi)

6.Mobile telecommunication networks and services, individual generations, state of the industry and development trends

7.Telecommunication solutions for smart cities and transport systems

Syllabus of tutorials:

1.Practical use cases of the discussed telecommunication technologies and principles are discussed at the seminars.

2.Students perform 2 laboratory tasks focused on practical verification of the discussed knowledge.

•The first task is in the field of Ethernet and structured cabling,

•the second task concerns IP networks, WiFi technologies and the use of diagnostic tools.

3.Students will take part in an excursion to the Certilab laboratory

Study Objective:

Understanding of telecommunication solutions in cyber infrastructures, relations between parameters of networks and services, telecomminications services quality management, specific requirements on telecommunications solutions for transport applications in SC, technical, legal and economical aspects of telecomminications services design and provisioning.
