Supervisor:
Department of Transport Telematics
Synopsis:

The subject is specialized in problems of work with applications of geographic information systems with special attention to the specialization in the field of transport and telecommunication. It introduces students to geographic data management practices and tools, real world modeling, geographic data storage models, data entry and digitization methods, and a number of other GIS related technologies such as problem mapping, webmap, etc.

Requirements:

Assessment: Obtaining a minimum of 25 points by 12.1. from continuous work in the semester (points can be obtained for semester work, work in practical lectures, presentation of a research article)

Examination: obtaining a minimum of 51 points from the semester work (points can be obtained for semester work, work in exercises, preparation of a professional text, final test, demonstration with GIS)

Syllabus of lectures:

Introduction to geographic information systems, real-world modeling in GIS

Introduction of basic GIS data models

Basic GNSS systems, their principles, differences

Introduction of coordinate systems and projections used in GIS

Presentation of methods of analytical procedures for raster data

Operations with rasters

Presentation of tasks in the transport domain that use GIS.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Introduction to GIS software (ArcGIS Pro / QGIS)

Basic introduction to GIS applications

Loading vector and raster data into QGIS

Heatmaps

Working with projections in the application

Basic raster analysis

Use the find optimized route feature

Indoor measurements

Histogram equalization, true-colour image

Study Objective:

To acquaint students with the basics of spatial information management in information systems, to introduce ways of creating a geographical information base, design philosophy and spatial data processing methods. The aim is to familiarize students with the principles of localization and navigation systems. The subject is focused on transport etc.
