- Synopsis:

During the lectures, students deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills of subjective refraction with the test frames and test sets of glasses. Further tests will follow on binocular balance, practice working with phoropter and other techniques. The teaching will also cover specific and difficult refractive conditions and the relationship between refractive deficit and eye and general diseases. An essential topic is the examination of pediatric patients and patients with specific needs. An important scope of the subject is an introduction to the examination of binocular vision.

80% attendance at lectures, practical exam, completed refractive cards, test and oral examination (triplet of questions).

1. Basic procedures for determining subjective refractive deficit.
2. Eye parameters, relationship between objective and subjective refraction. Pre-refraction operations. Phoropter
3. Binocular examination of astigmatism, the influence of the tilt of the trial and correction rim on the change in refractive deficit
4. Examination of presbyopic patient
5. Disorders of accommodation
6. Specifics of examination of a child patient. Progression of myopia, myopia control
7. Low vision optometry. Night myopia
8. Systemic and eye diseases and their influence on refraction examination. Physical, mental and psychological limitations of the patient during refraction examination
9. Basics of the theory of binocular vision. Dissociation
10. Anizeikonia - classification, examination and solution
11. Heterophoria, heterotropia. Basic binocular tests
12. Prismatic effect of the lens decentration. Calculation of total prismatic correction
13. Case reports

Course of the subject Subjective refraction II. is intended to provide students with a comprehensive overview of subjective refraction examinations and their practical mastery. In addition to acquiring theoretical prerequisites, the goal is also practical training in subjective measurement of refraction with an emphasis on expanding examinations in specific cases and acquiring basic skills in the field of binocular procedures.
