- Synopsis:

The course is a sequel to the 04APU1 and 04APU2 courses and students will have successfully passed the 04APS2 course. It focuses on further written functions specific to English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Increasing attention is given to extending subtechnical vocabulary, text grammar and text comprehension. Students are taught how to use formal language in written and oral communication.

Specific features of academic English, words of Latin and Greek origin, abbreviations in academic language, linking ideas into sentences and paragraphs, prepositional phrases, conjunctions and other linking expressions, expressing instructions (formal and informal), definitions, classification and existence. Professional formal written communication (CV, polite request, letter of application).

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Knowledge:
Morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, namely: modal verbs and structures, prepositional phrases, conjunctions and other linking expressions, irregular plurals of words of Latin and Greek origin, extended more professional vocabulary.
Skills:
To search specific information in written texts or in listening, use various reading strategies depending on purpose, speak briefly on a topic from the student´s field using formal language. To write a CV and a letter of aplication.
