- Synopsis:
-
Professional internship primarily serves to provide deeper knowledge of the systems and operation of a nuclear power plant. Currently, it takes place at either the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station or the Temelín Nuclear Power Station nuclear power plant, where students, in the form of an extended technical tour, become familiar with all key operational areas of the plant and gain a basic understanding of the work of a reactor physicist and a plant operator. In addition to the tours, the internship also includes a number of expert lectures, a visit to the training center, and a tour of the simulator facility.
- Requirements:
-
In order to be awarded the course credit, active participation in this practical training is required, or alternatively, the student may provide proof of completion of another internship of a comparable nature and scope.
- Syllabus of lectures:
-
A week-long internship at a nuclear power plant is carried out according to a program prepared by the plant staff in cooperation with the course guarantor.
Example program:
Monday welcome session, organizational information, lecture on the secondary circuit, visit to the secondary circuit turbine hall and outdoor facilities.
Tuesday lecture on fuel management, visit to the spent fuel storage facility, lecture on reactor core monitoring, visit to the civil defense shelter / emergency response headquarters, excursion to the local fire and police departments.
Wednesday excursion to the primary circuit, lecture on reactor physics.
Thursday excursion to other parts of the primary circuit (including the fresh fuel handling area), lecture on chemistry and steam generator cleaning.
Friday lecture on the work of a reactor physicist during the fuel cycle, optional excursion to the Dalešice pumped-storage power plant, departure home.
