Tutor:
Tereza Kráčmerová, Kateřina Pilařová
Supervisor:
Department of Dosimetry and Application of Ionizing Radiation
Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to extend the knowledge gained in previous studies in the field of nuclear medicine. The greatest attention is paid to current trends in imaging methods, dosimetry for individual treatment planning and newly developed procedures and pharmaceuticals for targeted radionuclide therapy. Part of the course is also devoted to the specifics of radiation protection in nuclear medicine workplaces.

Requirements:

Credit is given for completing all the exercises listed, no later than halfway through the exam period.

The exam will be divided into a written part, which must be completed at least 80% in order for the student to begin the oral exam.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to personalised dosimetry in nuclear medicine and whole-body dosimetry

2. Radiation protection diagnostics

3. Radiation protection therapy

4. Image reconstruction and the partial-volume effect

5. Quantification in diagnostics and diagnostic accuracy

6. Quantification in therapy

7. Clinical applications of the radionuclide 131I

8. Dosimetry of 131I radiopharmaceuticals

9. Clinical applications of the 177Lu radionuclide

10. Dosimetry of 177Lu radiopharmaceuticals

11. Dosimetry of 90Y radiopharmaceuticals hepatocellular carcinoma

12. Dosimetry in radionuclide therapy

Syllabus of tutorials:

The exercise follows the outline of the lectures.

Study Objective:

The course focuses on the physical aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine, with particular emphasis on quantitative imaging, radiation protection and personalised dosimetry. Students will be introduced to the principles of whole-body and organ dosimetry, methods for determining absorbed dose and their application in clinical practice.

The course covers issues relating to radiation protection during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, the principles of SPECT/CT and PET/CT image reconstruction, the influence of the partial-volume effect on quantification, and methods for evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative parameters. It also covers the quantification of activity in radionuclide therapy, the clinical use of the radionuclides 131I, 177Lu and 90Y, dosimetry methods for individual radiopharmaceuticals, and the principles of individualising radionuclide therapy based on dosimetric calculations. The course also covers current recommendations from professional societies and modern trends in personalised radionuclide therapy.
