Synopsis:

The lectures are devoted to the issue of selected types of civil buildings, especially buildings for healthcare, education, and transport. The lectures focus on operational ties, operational circuits within structures, specific requirements from various points of view - from social to, for example, hygienic. They also note the urban context, technological requirements and construction specifics, typical for the respective range of buildings.

The exercises follow the lectures.

Requirements:

Lectures and exercises are mandatory, a maximum of 3 excused absences are allowed. In the event of a longer absence (for any reason), the course guarantor or exercise leader may allow alternative fulfillment of the course conditions at their discretion. Before registering for the exam, it is necessary to obtain credit and the granting of credit is conditional on submitting the exercise in the required quality.

Syllabus of lectures:

The order of lectures may vary depending on other activities of the lecturers during the semester.

1.-2. Administrative buildings (ADB).

Brief development of ADB with regard to changes in function, working environment and layout. Contemporary trends, technological development, changes in the nature of work and social relations. Ergonomic and hygienic requirements. Related operations in ADB (rest, catering,...). Examples of progressive solutions, increasing demands on environmental quality and sustainability of buildings.. Importance and processes of certification (BREEAM, LEED, DGNB or even SBToolCZ).

3.-4. Buildings for education and upbringing

Preschool facilities - functions, structure, specific requirements according to location, type of facility. Alternative options and related layout changes. Primary, secondary and vocational schools - system, educational system, basic and alternative types of teaching. Hygienic, sociological, cultural requirements. Types of school buildings and campuses. Universities and university campuses - specifics according to the type and size of schools, campus and its components.

5.-6. Buildings for cultural and social purposes

Galleries and exhibition spaces and related facilities of these types of buildings. Specific requirements, urban conditions, urban context. Theaters and concert halls. Libraries, cultural and educational institutions. Inclusion in the educational system, importance for the development of municipalities and regions. Specific operational requirements with regard to the scope of activity and inclusion in the system of similar institutions. Urban context, system of cultural facilities in the city, municipality, state. Growing importance of reducing the energy consumption of publicly accessible buildings in general and buildings established with public funds in particular.

7. Buildings for trade and services

Urban context, importance in the structure of the city, basic operational requirements and specific requirements. Small and specialized commercial units, urban shopping centers, shopping centers, multi-purpose commercial and cultural centers. Examples.

8.-9. Sports buildings

System and purpose of sports buildings, urban planning requirements, system requirements. Open and covered facilities. Visitor and athlete groups. Access, visibility, safety requirements. Operating lines in various types of sports buildings, division by sports sector. Recreational sports and relaxation. Examples of solutions. The lectures also include a basic division and description of the possibilities of membrane structures.

10. Healthcare buildings

Health care system - requirements for medical, medical and spa complexes, specifics of individual facilities according to reach, professional focus and local conditions. Specific facilities and their specific requirements. Solutions for the basic arrangement of individual operating units within the healthcare system.

11. Senior buildings

Special healthcare system versus social service. Social counseling, social care, social prevention. Nursing home, retirement home, dementia home, permanent care home. Social context and contemporary view of life in old age.

12. Sacred Buildings and Community Centers

Spiritual, social, cultural and social functions of sacred buildings and related areas. Involvement in the life of society, importance for social structure and ties. Examples of the latest implementations and their impact on the functioning of communities.

Syllabus of tutorials:

The exercise focuses on selected typological types of buildings, but on their example the general principles of typological preparation of architectural work are practiced.

1. Introduction - familiarization with the course of the exercise and the conditions for granting credit, preparation for the following assignment.

2. Hotel room

4. Restaurant - kitchen connections - sales area, arrangement of sales area

5. ADB - individual and large-scale offices

6. ADB - related operations

7. Exhibition spaces, galleries - basic arrangement, operating lines (especially visitor), additional and related operations

8. Kindergarten - basic arrangement, connections to the exterior, orientation to the cardinal points

9. Elementary school - complete area including sports equipment and catering facilities

10. Sports facility - indoor sports

11. Sports facility - outdoor sports, spectator stands

12. Final evaluation

Study Objective:

The aim is to provide students with a basic overview that will enable them to develop projects in architectural design studios. Lectures and exercises are designed so that the student can develop a general operational and layout diagram of the entire building and its detailed operational circuit, determine basic layout connections including aspects such as traffic at rest (parking), connection to public space, operational and energy economics, as well as environmental protection and a user-friendly environment.
