Synopsis:

The Studio is the student's first experience of designing a specific building on a specific site. This course follows architectural composition course, which focuses on architectural design as an abstract composition of smaller parts in relation to a larger whole. The core of the course is the architectural design process applied to the design of a simple building. The main goal of the course in general is the mastery of architectural design techniques along with the further development of creativity initiated in architectural composition. The specific aim of the work is to design a small building - an operationally simple object in the context of specified conditions.

Requirements:

Active participation in the studios (only excused absences of up to 25% of the studio hours are allowed) - individual consultations besides classes do not substitute for compulsory attendance.

Participation in review dates and presentations.

Submission of work in the predefined time, scope and format.

The above requirements are necessary but not sufficient conditions for successful completion of the course.

Syllabus of lectures:

The course does not have lectures.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Semester schedule:

1. Assignment: introduction and interpretation of the assignment in a way to be understood quickly.

2.Analysis of the assignment, settings and context, creative research.

3.Creative research and discussion of architecture, working on the project in design variants.

4.Work on the project in design variants, discussion of architecture.

5.Work on the project in variants, 1. work in progress check - stabilization of the concept.

6. Elaboration and refinement of the final variant, or work on a subtask according to a specific assignment.

7. Elaboration and refinement of the final variant, or work on a subtask according to a specific assignment.

8. Elaboration and refinement of the final variant, or work on a subtask according to a specific assignment.

9. Elaboration and refinement of the final variant, or work on a subtask according to a specific assignment.

10.Elaboration and refinement of the final variant, or work on a subtask according to a specific assignment.

11. 2. checking the work in progress, completing the final design.

12. Work on the final presentation of the design - drawing and model.

13. Work on the final design presentation - drawing and model.

Any adjustments to the schedule are the responsibility of the individual studio supervisors.

Study Objective:

The studio follows the previous architectural composition studio and develops the skills the student should achieve upon successful completion of this course:

- to be oriented in the design process and be able to solve a design type assignment within a specified time (1 semester);

- to develop the ability to work creatively and conceptually to solve an assignment;

- to understand the context of the assignment and acquire methods to understand and describe it;

- to perceive in contextual terms artistic and spatial solution;

- to be able to work critically with research throughout the design process;

- to define the basic structural principles and material solutions of a proposal;

- to present a comprehensive design in all its phases, verbally and graphically.
