Introduction and presentation of timber structures use in building industry. Wood and wood-based materials properties. Safety of timber structures design, ultimate limit states, valid standards. Cross section design of simple members. Connections of timber structures. Glued joints. Basic structural systems. Fire design. Protection of timber structures.

Before taking the examination following this course, it is required to have passed course 132PRPE.
- Syllabus of lectures:

Introduction and overview of application of timber in civil engineering. Properties of wood and material based on wood. Safety of design of timber structures, limit state design, valid codes. Design of cross sections with respect to different loads and their combinations. Connections and connectors of timber structures. Semirigid glued joints. basic bearing systems.Design of timber structures against fire. Protection of structures against fire and insect and sponges.

Introduce students to material properties of wood, basic principals of design timber structures, cross sections subjected to different loads, connections of timber structures and their protection againts fire and insect and dry rots.
