Course guarantor:

Lecturer:
Tutor:
Alexandru Moucha
Supervisor:
Department of Computer Systems
Synopsis:

Students will further enhance their knowledge acquired from previous BI-ST1 and BI-ST2 courses. Principles of routing and switching presented during BI-ST1 and BI-ST2 courses will get further extended in the course. Students will be able to start fine-tune protocols' settings to gain certain advantages like increased efficiency, predictability, extension beyond a simple topology, security, etc.

Requirements:

Successful accomplishment of CCNA3 final test and final lab.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Growing the Network

2. LAN Redundancy

3. Link Aggregation

4. Wireless

5. Adjust and Troubleshoot Single-Area OSPF

6. Multiarea OSPF

7. EIGRP

8. Adjust and Troubleshoot EIGRP

9. IOS File Management

10. Final test, Final lab

Syllabus of tutorials:

Labs:

- Advanced OSPF

- Advanced EIGRP

- Route redistribution

- NBMA

Study Objective:

Students of the subject will learn how to setup redundant, predictable, and effective network topologies. Redundancy is achieved by switchport aggregation into virtual channels (Etherchannel). On the 3rd OSI layer redundancy is achieved by using multiple routers aggregated as virtual (phantom) routers (VRRP, HSRP, and GLBP protocols). Students will learn how to load-balance traffic and thus achieve better efficiency. This is realized by using per-VLAN STP (PVSTP) at the 2nd OSI layer and per-VLAN routing at layer 3 or multiple equal-metric parallel routes in the EIGRP or OSPF routing table. Students will also learn how to extend network topologies to campus or multi-campus sizes by using multiple-area OSPF routing. Another goal is to understand the roles of tunnels (encrypted or not) and to integrate this with network supporting IPv4 and IPv6 dual-stack routing.
