Synopsis:

The course provides a general summary of transmissions for various applications which the student in the specialization designer-calculator meets. The gearing basics of production and transport machines will be briefly explained, important calculations will be discussed in more detail on the examples of transmission devices of motor vehicles.

• Transmission layouts of motor vehicles

• Transmission layouts of transport machines

• Transmission layouts of production machines

• Friction elements in transmissions (dry clutches, synchronizers, multi-plate clutches/brakes)

• Mechanical gearboxes of motor vehicles

• Hydrodynamic transmissions (clutches, converters, retarders)

• Planetary gearsets (functions, calculation basics)

• Automatic and two-clutch gearboxes of motor vehicles

• Differentials

• Hydrostatic transmissions

• PTO shafts, freewheels, multi-axle drive

• Variators

• Transmissions with power flow split and their applications

Study Objective:

The topic gives overview of all existing transmission types. The focus is given to transmissions of motor vehicles, but briefly are described also the gearboxes used in transport devices and planes.
