Synopsis:

The course is aimed for students, employees of the Faculty and the public whose knowledge of English corresponds to B1 level according to the European Language Frame.

The course focuses on improving all language skills - writing, speaking, reading, listening, grammar and phonetics - and is submitted to the goal of obtaining the required skills needed for B2 ELF.

Requirements:

Requirements:

Students are expected to attend classes, work actively during lessons and prepare independently their home assignments, including essays.

They are due to take three tests and get at least 65% of total points.

Other requirements will be specified in detail by the teacher during the first lesson of the term. The teacher is allowed to supplement or change his/her requirements or programme of the lessons.

Week 1 Bands and fans : speaking, reading-gapped text

Week 2 Bands and fans : grammar-present simple, present continuous, use of English: multiple-choice cloze

Week 3 Bands and fans : listening-multiple matching, grammar-used to/would, writing-informal email, review

Week 4 Relative values: speaking, use of English-word formation, listening-multiple choice

Week 5 Relative values : grammar-adverbs, reading-multiple matching, speaking

Week 6 Relative values: grammar-ing/infinitive, speaking, writing-essay, review

Week 7 Things that matter: reading-multiple choice, grammar-present perfect, past simple

Week 8 Things that matter: grammar-as, like, use of English-open, close, listening-sentence completion, vocabulary

Week 9 Things that matter: grammar-comparing, speaking, writing-engaging the reader, review

Week 10 Battling nature: listening-multiple choice, speaking, grammar-past simple, past continuous and past perfect

Week 11 Battling nature: speaking-collaborative task, reading-multiple matching

Week 12 Battling nature: grammar-definite, indefinite, zero article, use of English-word formation, writing-expressing, supporting ideas, review

Week 13 Exam Maximizer, Revision Lessons 1 - 4, Final credit test

Week 14 Final credit test-Analysing errors, Credits
