The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic skills related to working on a personal computer. The introductory part of the course is devoted to information systems and resources available at the CTU in Prague and the FNSPE. Emphasis is placed on effective handling of work with office productivity software (text editor, spreadsheet and presentation software) with exercises in MS Office. The practical content focuses mainly on further use during studies (laboratory reports, research work, bachelor's and diploma theses) and in specific practice (hospitals, state administration, companies). Other sections summarize basic information about computer hardware, software, and security. Completion of independent home exercises and participation in exercises above 60% is a necessary condition for passing the course.

2. Word Processing I - The philosophy and basic functions
3. Word Processing II. - Formatting templates
4. Word Processing III. - Advanced features, major projects (basic rules for DTP)
5. Spreadsheet I - The philosophy and basic functions
6. Spreadsheet II. - Formulas, built-in functions, formatting
7. Spreadsheet III. - Advanced function, accessories, solver
8. Spreadsheet IV. - Examples from practice, exercises
9. Presentation tools I. - An overview of key features (principles of formatting)
10. Presentation tools II. - Presentation principles + exercises, creation of other documents (posters, etc.),
11. Hardware (general principles, knowledge for the selection of PCs) and software (sorting, summary, licenses and basic functions of OS)
12. IT security (viruses, firewalls, spyware, phishing, certificates, encryption)
13. Practicing and individual consultations (if required by students)

Knowledge:
Basic IT knowledge in hardware and software, computer security and safe work with data. Overview and control of IT resources available at CTU. Good knowledge of MS Office and awareness of alternatives.
Skills:
Work with office productivity software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with an emphasis on future application during studies and in practice. Searching in electronic resources and working with a bibliography.
