Synopsis:

Basic characteristics of ionising radiation energy transfer to matter, importance of inelastic collisions of charged particles, excitation function, etc. Track and characteristics of ionising particles, time evolution of the energy transfer process. Microdosimetry, basic principles and approaches, stochastic and non-stochastic quantities, linear energy transfer, lineal energy, specific energy. Microdosimetry and biological effects of radiation, microdosimetry and radiation protection, etc.

1. Microdosimetry as the base of understanding of biological effects of ionizing radiation.

2. Transfer of energy of ionizing radiation to human tissue.

3. Inelastic collisions of charged particles.

4. Space distributions of primary radiation energy transfer products.

5. Time evolution of processes following the ionizing radiation energy transfer.

6. Fundamentals of microdosimetry.

7. Quantities and units of microdosimetry.

8. Lineal energy; specific energy - relation to macrodosimetric quantities.

9. Microdosimetry and biological effects of radiation.

10. Microdosimetry and radiation protection.

11. Microdosimetry and radiotherapy.

12. Methods of experimental microdosimetry.

Knowledge about basic characteristics of ionising radiation energy transfer to matter and their use for Microdosimetric applications.

Analysis of energy transfer to matter in terms of micro processes and their practical use for radiation detection.
