Synopsis:

The course provides overview of possibilities of the applications of ionizing radiation namely in the field of characteriza-tion and diagnostic of materials for the sake of science and technology. Emphasis will be given to advanced methods of materials characterization which utilize atomic and nuclear physical processes. Several diagnostic methods based upon ionizing radiation will be introduced.

2.Diagnostics by ion beams: RBS, channelling

3.Diagnostics by ion beams: PIXE, PIGE, ERDA, NRA

4.Mössbauer spectrometry: principles of the method, experimental techniques

5.Mössbauer spectrometry: hyperfine interactions, selected applications

6.Neutron activation analysis

7.Electron-positron annihilation spectroscopy

8.Nuclear-physical methods in nuclear medicine, gamma camera, CT, PET

9.Sources and characteristics of synchrotron radiation

10.Nuclear resonance by synchrotron radiation

11.Spectroscopic techniques by synchrotron radiation: XANES, EXAFS, STXM

12.Imaging techniques by synchrotron radiation, X-ray free electron laser (XFEL)
