This course provides introduction to engineering skills. Students should gain general engineering skills at basic level (e.g. material properties and behavior, basics of manufacturing and production, quality assurance, environmental impacts,…). In addition, the introduction to scientific work and technical drawing will be included.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Introduction to engineering work: classification of engineering disciplines, requirements for research and development, examples of engineering products, norms and standards. (1 lecture)

2.Literature review: search for literature in databases, library tools. (1 lecture)

3.Copyright and publishing: practical fundamentals of copyright, use of copyright works, citations. (1 lecture)

4.Management system and quality assurance: the importance of the management system, the implementation of the management system and the area of activities for which they are being processed, commonly applied approaches and standards and the role of the state supervision. (1 lecture)

5.Ethics and sustainable development: the ethical dimension of engineering work, moral dilemmas and the responsibility of the engineer, ensuring sustainable development. (1 lecture)

6.Design: illustration of design activities, preparation and realization of engineering projects. (1 lecture)

7.Dimensioning in Technical Drawing: Dimensioning Method. Prescribing surface quality and working method. Dimensional tolerance. Drawing basic geometric shapes and parts. Displaying machine parts. (2 lectures)

8.CAD systems in technical drawing: Simplification of drawing works, reasons for simplification, methods used and their comparison, use of automation, use of computers. (2 lectures)

9.Basics of material science: Crystalline and amorphous materials, division of metals and alloys, non-ferrous metals and their alloys, casting, forming and processing materials, non-metallic materials - polymers and ceramics. (3 lectures)
