The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the relationships between design, available manufacturing techniques, production technology, and the basics of the economic aspects of engineering production. Technological aspects of design in terms of casting, forming, welding, and surface treatment. Principles of material and semi-finished product selection in terms of production methods. Design modifications of parts with regard to the development of materials and technologies used, weight reduction, ensuring the required quality and cost-effectiveness of production.

1. Technological aspects of design harmonization of product design with production possibilities and cost-effectiveness, general principles.
2. Criteria for selecting materials and semi-finished products. Comparison of casting, forming, and welding.
3. Relationships between the mechanical properties of test samples and actual products. Examples of material selection for machine parts with regard to their function and production economy.
4. Advantages and limitations of casting technology. Principles of casting design with regard to stress, impact, and fatigue.
5. Principles of model design. Limitations and possibilities of sand casting. Defects caused by metal solidification.
6. Principles of designing precision castings and castings cast in metal molds.
7. Limitations and possibilities of metal forming. Principles of selecting forging processes and designing forgings. Factors affecting the accuracy of forgings.
8. Principles of design for shearing, pressing, bending, and drawing.
9. Forming machines and tools, methods for predicting the service life of forming tools.
10. Principles of designing welded structures, advantages and limitations of the welding process, influence of material weldability.
11. Preparation of weld surfaces, types of welded joints and their correct selection, basic calculations.
12. Technological aspects of designing welded aluminum structures, use of brazed and bonded joints.
13. Principles of structural design with regard to corrosion prevention, use of appropriate surface treatments.
