Design of pneumatic control systems. Pneumatic actuators, directional control valves, special pneumatic, pneumatic-hydraulic, and electropneumatic devices. Control valves and final control elements: classification, properties, application areas, and sizing. Smart pneumatics as the integration of pneumatic, electronic, and software systems. Valve terminals: standard, fieldbus-communicating, and programmable. Pneumatic linear positioning systems. Signal filtering: low-pass analog filters (Bessel, Butterworth, Chebyshev, elliptic filters). Digital FIR and IIR filters and their software implementation. Analog and digital PID controllers: their hardware implementation, software algorithms, and I/O signals. Integral wind-up, aliasing. Experimental methods for PID controller tuning. Electric actuators: DC, AC, and stepper motors; their static and dynamic properties. Serial bus communication: TIA/EIA 232F, 422B, and 485A interfaces. Current loop. Industrial communication systems. ISO/OSI reference model. Fieldbuses: Profibus, CAN, DeviceNet/ControlNet, AS-Interface, and HART.
