- Synopsis:
-
The course provides a basic overview of concepts in astronomy, key topics in astrophysics, and selected topics from general relativity. It is designed as an introduction for future teachers who, after completing the course, will be better equipped to understand the subject matter and independently study further topics.
- Requirements:
-
Credit is awarded for submitting homework assignments and active participation in exercises. The final evaluation includes both a written and an oral exam.
- Syllabus of lectures:
-
1.Introduction to astronomy (scales, observational windows, current issues, types of objects, structure of the universe).
2.Physics of stars (nuclear synthesis, neutrino production, final stages of stars).
3.Astroparticle physics (cosmic and gamma radiation, astrophysical neutrinos).
4.Equivalence principle, gravitational redshift.
5.Spacetime curvature, Einsteins equations.
6.Schwarzschild metric, motions in Schwarzschild metric and tests.
7.Gravitational waves.
8.FriedmannRobertsonWalker metric, expansion of the universe.
9.Experimental cosmology (cosmic microwave background, dark matter, dark energy, matter distribution).
