Synopsis:

The course provides an introduction to and practical training in methodological approaches to teaching physics in secondary schools. It covers diverse approaches to science education and to physics instruction specifically. Emphasis is placed on lesson preparation and delivery with a focus on engaging students. Students will practice both student-led and demonstration experiments, as well as laboratory work. The course highlights interesting and essential topics in mechanics, molecular physics, and oscillations and waves, tailored to the secondary school level.

Requirements:

Credit requirement: semester paper/presentation

Examination: preparation and presentation of a model lesson on an assigned topic

1.Physics as a standalone subject or as part of STEM education

2.Specific features of teaching physics in secondary schools

3.Physics textbooks, academic literature, and online resources

4.Student motivation, storytelling in education, and practical example demonstrations

5.Physics laboratory basic lab equipment and preparation of custom experiments

6.Physics topics taught in secondary schools, including experiments (mechanics, molecular physics, oscillations and waves)
