Synopsis:

An introduction to the electromagnetic production of mesons, with emphasis on the process of photoproduction. Introducing basic concepts and importand aspects of the models (with emphasis on models based on effective Lagrangians) for understanding the topic.

2. An overview of experimental facilities

3. Isobar model for meson photoproductions

4. Gauge invariance in the isobar model

5. Form factors in the isobar model

6. Exchanges of resonances with spin larger than ½

7. Extension to meson electroproduction

8. Regge theory and Regge-plus-resonance model

9. Statistical methods for model selection

10. Weizsäcker-Williams approximation
