Synopsis:

This course prepares students for the legal and communication aspects related to the BIM (Building Information Management) methodology, which is becoming mandatory for certain public contracts. Emphasis is placed not only on understanding copyright law, the management of digital databases, and licensing contracts but also on the ability to communicate project outcomes clearly and convincingly in both digital and public spaces. Students will develop skills in presentation, non-verbal communication, and emotional intelligence, with a strong focus on professional practice in the digital world.

Requirements:

Active participation in lectures and seminars

Preparation and presentation of a seminar paper addressing both legal and communication aspects

Ongoing maintenance of an electronic portfolio including individual and group tasks

Final presentation defense integrating knowledge of law, digital communication, and professional presentation

Independent work with selected legal texts and contractual documents

Practical exercises focused on presentation skills, argumentation, and real-life legal case analysis (including AI tools)

Introduction to Law private vs. public law, key legal principles

Structure of the Civil Code property rights, fairness, good faith, and personality protection

Copyright Law and Territoriality core concepts, history, and work protection

Legal Aspects of the Digital Environment and BIM overview, Information Model of Construction, Common Data Environment

Types of Databases and Legal Qualification copyright, sui generis, and simple databases

Architectural Works as Copyrighted Content in BIM creation phases, project documentation

Duration and Types of Copyright moral and economic rights

Copyright Infringement and Legal Remedies judicial and extrajudicial instruments

Statutory Licenses and Freedom of Panorama legal exceptions to copyright use

Collaborative Works joint authorship, employee and commissioned works

Quasi-Licenses and Contractual Purpose interpretation of contracts in civil law

License Agreements structure, examples, types

ČSS Licensing Clauses for BIM Projects Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build models

Voice and Body Language: practical training in non-verbal communication

Explaining Legal Concepts: clear and accessible presentation of a legal term

Digital Visual Communication: creating engaging content for online presentations

Crisis Communication and Stress Management: Q&A simulations

Ethics and Law in the Context of AI: presentation of a case study or ethical issue

Teamwork and Negotiation Skills: group activities and simulations

Drafting Texts for Public Speech: structured writing for digital/public settings

Professional Image and Personal Communication Style: self-reflection and self-presentation training

Legal Topics in Communication (e.g., data protection, copyright): individual exercises

Improvisation in Unpredictable Situations: practicing quick and effective responses

Mock Presentations: feedback and preparation for final performance

Final Presentation of Seminar Paper: evaluation of presentation and communication competence

Study Objective:

The course aims to prepare students for the legal and communication challenges in the field of digital construction and architecture, particularly related to the BIM methodology. Students will gain basic orientation in civil and copyright law, learn to identify protected elements in information models, and understand how to structure legal agreements for digital content. At the same time, they will develop professional presentation skills, emotional awareness, and non-verbal communication techniques, with a strong focus on digital environments and public speaking.
