Synopsis:

The aim of this practical training is to introduce the students the fundamentals of X-ray and neutron diffraction methods for diagnostics of structure dependant properties of solids.

Requirements:

Knowledge of fundamentals of diffraction study of solids.

Completion of at least 12 of the 13 practical exercises (not only at FJFI).

Special preparation and/or preparation of a protocol from the task is individual at the request of the teacher of the given exercise.

The arithmetic mean is calculated from the grades awarded and, if necessary, a verbal evaluation is added.

1. Experimental equipment in the neutron diffraction laboratory at ÚJV Řež, use of neutron diffraction

2. Laue method, orientation of single crystals

3. Rietveld analysis of polycrystalline materials

4. Analysis of diffraction line profiles

5. Small-angle X-ray scattering - SAXS

6. X-ray texture analysis

7. Qualitative diffraction phase analysis

8. Determination of thin film thicknesses using X-rays

9. X-ray analysis of thermal stress relaxation

10. Experimental determination of X-ray elastic constants

11.X-ray fluorescence analysis

12. Determination of single crystal structure

13. Determination of polycrystal structure

Study Objective:

Knowledge:^^Deeper knowledge of solis state structure. ^^Skills: ^^Ability of unaided performing of experiments in X-ray and neutron diffraction laboratories.
