Synopsis:

The course introduces Educational and Developmental Psychology as one of the starting points for the professional activity of a teacher in a school. The course presents selected psychological knowledge necessary for understanding and conducting the educational process. In particular, the course deals with the characteristics and development of cognitive, motivational and emotional processes, psychological characteristics of the individual and their changes in the different developmental stages, especially in adolescence.

Requirements:

Z = develop a pedagogical-psychological characterization of an individual aged 12 to 20 years, based on the results of interviews, observations and questionnaires (Guidelines and tools for developing case studies) + ongoing tasks in Moodle

Zk = study the basic literature related to the requirements of the exam (Control questions) and at least three publications from the list of recommended literature (the student will bring the list of publications to the exam) + pass a written test of knowledge (10 multiple choice questions, 3 open questions scored 0-5 points) + oral discussion of the test, the tasks and the case study

Assessment criteria:

A = 90-100 points, B = 80-89 points, C = 70-79 points, D = 60-69 points, E = 50-59 points, F = 0-49 points

Test (0-25 points)

Literature and oral examination (15 points)

Syllabus of lectures:

Introduction to educational psychology. The use of educational psychology in educational practice. Aims, objectives and requirements of the course. Educational psychological characteristics of the individual and his/her development. Assignments and procedures for case study development.

How to become a good teacher. How to become a good pupil. Characteristics of an expert teacher and an expert pupil.

Teacher development opportunities. Interaction between teacher and pupil. Teacher's personality and burnout syndrome, psychohygiene. Supervision.

Pedagogical-psychological characteristics of the individual and his/her development. Cognitive development and its importance for education and training. Parents, siblings and important adults in development and education.

Psychological characteristics of adolescence and emerging adulthood.

Individual and group differences in learning, teaching and education. Gifted pupils.

School classes and their management. Diagnosis of the individual and the school class as a basis for educational-psychological intervention. The school class as a social group.

Evaluation in teaching.

Study Objective:

To introduce educational and developmental psychology as one of the possible starting points for professional practice in educational and school settings and in all areas where teachers need a comprehensive understanding of the prior development of children, adolescents and adults for effective diagnosis and intervention.

To provide a theoretical-applicational basis for the psychological explanation of educational processes and relationships and their effects on personality development.

To connect the knowledge of educational psychology with the solution of specific educational situations (in family and school environment, in leisure activities, etc.).

To show that it is educational psychology that offers relevant bases for understanding the conditions of individual development and their support.

Acquired knowledge: the student is able to define the basic areas of educational psychology, knows the place of educational psychology in the taxonomy of psychological disciplines and in disciplines devoted to the education of the individual, the contribution of the discipline to the practice of education, education and for the development of the individual; knows the important concepts of personality development, learning and their contribution to the development of educational psychology; knows and explains the basic subject categories of educational psychology (esp. Personality development, learning, abilities, competences, socialisation, education, self-education; motivation); knows and understands the basic categories of problems addressed by educational psychology; knows the basic principles of describing and understanding the development and education of the individual.

Acquired skills: the student will be able to apply the approaches of educational psychology and distinguish it from the approaches of sociology, special pedagogy, pedagogy, medicine; he/she will be able to compare the individual concepts, he/she will be able to highlight their fundamental benefits; he/she will be able to perform an orientation analysis of the development of a specific personality and its education on the basis of a case study; he/she will be able to critically assess the psychological grounding and methodological adequacy of common procedures for solving everyday problems of educational practice.
