Written final test, evaluation during the semester, evaluation of homework that is part of the course

Syllabus of lectures:

- Structure of the professional work. Basic characteristics and specifics of a professional text. Outline of professional text, especially in biomedicine and biomedical engineering. Typical parts, their purpose, content and elements: introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion.

- Information sources. Survey of the state of the art in the field. Types of scientific publications (monograph, primary research article, review article, case studies...). Timeliness, relevance, quality and credibility. Review procedure and publication process of a scientific article. Electronic and print information resources; citation databases and digital libraries.

- Publication ethics. The meaning and importance of citing sources. Copyright ethics and copyright in relation to academic papers, plagiarism. Method of citation, paraphrase and direct quotation. Citation styles, citation managers.

- Style of professional work. Formal requirements and principles for the production of professional text. The language of professional work. Typography, typographic rules. Numerical typography, mathematical typesetting. Examples.

- Results. Description and presentation of results. Figures and graphs. Tables. Diagrams and diagrams. Principles and typical errors.

- Research studies, their importance and types. Prospective and retrospective studies, observational and intervention studies. Randomized and non-randomized studies, studies with crossover design and factorial design, single, double and triple blind studies, open-label studies. Animal and clinical studies. Randomization.

- Research and experiment. Design, preparation and conduct of an experiment; protocol experi

- Examples of professional articles, examples of characteristic elements in the text (1 seminar).

- Extended abstract. Preparation of extended abstract (homework) and its evaluation (2 seminars).

- Presentation of a professional communication. Preparation (homework). Group presentation and evaluation (2 seminars).

- Graphs and diagrams. Demonstrations, solving homework (1 seminar).

- Application to the Ethics Committee and its requirements. Informed consent and probationer card (1 seminar).
