Synopsis:

The exceptional course of our guest professor is focused on detailed presentation of the contents of the new textbook issued by the IAEA “Fundamentals of magnetic fusion technology“, which was proposed by Prof Guido van Oost from Ghent University who later acted as its chief editor. Although there is a general concsensus that physical engineering plays the key role in potential harnessing of the magnetic confinement thermonuclear fusion, there is insufficient amount of documents that would review the subject and be up to date for the physics experts. The new textbook is in this point of view a priceless contribution and every fusion science student should know it. As a bonus lecture, Prof. van Oost will share with the audience his knowledge of the new science technology projects in the field of Nuclear Engineering in Belgium.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1. Overview of the contents of the textbook

2. Introduction to magnetic confinement fusion, with emphasis on safety, security and sustainability

3. Fusion Materials I, with emphasis on the Plasma facing components

4. Fusion Materials II, with emphasis on structural materials

5. Overview of auxiliary heating systems ( NBI and RF)

6. Introduction to the new large research project MYRRHA/MINERVA at SCK.CEN Mol, Belgium
