Synopsis:

As part of the course, students will become familiar with the structural statics and analytical problems of failures, rehabilitation and restoration of load-bearing and completion structures of historical buildings, including the influence of fire resistance requirements, health safety and building physics.

The lectures, structured into thematic areas, will mainly cover the areas of damage and repair of brick tenement houses, rural buildings, industrial buildings, objects realized with prefabricated technology, damage and repair of opening fillings (windows, doors), floor structures, chimneys and staircases of historical buildings.

Requirements:

124PDRC (124PDRQ) or 124YPR1

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Surveys of monuments, diagnostics and evaluation of historical building structures.

2. Historical structures, materials and structural static solution of brick masonry renzal houses

3. Brick masonry rental houses - characteristic defects and malfunctions, rehabilitation and reconstruction

4. Historical structures, materials, defects, faults and rehabilitation of rural houses and buildings

5. Construction, defects, malfunctions and rehabilitation of historical industrial buildings

6. Construction, defects, malfunctions, rehabilitation and modifications of historical prefabricated structures - 1

7. Construction, defects, malfunctions, rehabilitation and modifications of historical prefabricated structures - 2

8. Failures and rehabilitation of openings in historic buildings (windows, doors)

9. Faults and rehabilitation of floor structures, chimneys and staircases of historic buildings

10. Historical buildings and their modifications from the point of view of fire safety of buildings

11. Historical buildings and their modifications in terms of health safety

12. Historical buildings and their modifications in terms of building physics requirements - acoustics and lighting, thermal technology

13. Example from practice/excursion: e.g. monastery in Plasy, Prague Castle, wooden farm in Milíkov in Chebsk

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Surveys of monuments, diagnostics and evaluation of historical building structures.

2. Determining the causes of defects and malfunctions, proposal for rehabilitation and restoration of selected parts of brick tenement houses or country houses and buildings

3. Determining the causes of defects and malfunctions, proposal for rehabilitation and restoration of selected parts of brick tenement houses or rural houses and buildings

4. Determining the causes of defects and malfunctions, proposal for rehabilitation and restoration of selected parts of historical industrial buildings

5. Determining the causes of defects and malfunctions, proposal for rehabilitation and restoration of selected parts of historical prefabricated structures

6. Determining the causes of defects and malfunctions, proposal for rehabilitation and restoration of selected parts of historical prefabricated structures

Study Objective:

The aim of the subject is to acquire the basics of the structural statics and analytical issues of failures, rehabilitation and restoration of load-bearing and completion structures of historical buildings, including the influence of fire resistance requirements, health safety and building physics, supplementing knowledge of the mechanisms of degradation processes and building failures according to the building materials used.
