Synopsis:

The course aims is focused on instrumental and radiochemical methods applied in nuclear forensic analysis, required particular radiochemical sampling techniques. The course is divided into two basic branches. The first one is more focussing on methods suitable for direct acquisition and evaluation of radionuclides in various samples. The second one is focusing on matrix analysis and its relation to contained radionuclides and its forensic information. In both cases isotopic composition of samples containing radioactive as well as stable nuclides in relation with standard materials of known composition, origin and tracking history is followed.

1. Quality assurance of analysis, types and sample matrices

2. Samplings and samples processing

3. Nuclear Analytical Methods (NAA, PIXE, PIGE, etc.)

4. Evaluation of radionuclide mixture and isotopic composition

5. Atomic and molecular spectroscopy (AAS, ICP-OES)

6. Molecular forensic spectroscopy, Raman scattering a FT-IR spectroscopy, spectral libraries and interpretation

7. Electron microscopy (SEM, TEM/HRTEM, AFM, EDX)

8. Isotopic methods in nuclear magnetic resonance, light and heavy nuclei NMR (6Li, 11B, 207Pb, 235U), the specific natural isotope fractionation (SNIF), 3H/2H/1H isotopic ratio measurement

9. Mass spectrometry, methods of ICP-MS, high resolution mass spectrometry, analysis of species based on exact mass measurements

10. Accelerator mass spectrometry
