Synopsis:

The goal of the course is to acquaint students with basic principles of mobile networks 4G, 5G, and with multimedia data transfers in these networks. Also, students will study the principles of smart cards and their use for authentication of users of mobile networks. The computer labs will be based on simulations of mobile networks. The course builds upon preceding courses BIE-PSI and BIE-VPS and completes the overall student's knowledge mainly in the area of high-speed mobile networks.

Requirements:

Knowledge of computer networks at the level of courses BIE-PSI.21 and BIE-VPS.21.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to telecommunication networks and the VoIP technology.

2. Application protocols in mobile networks.

3. The architecture of the 4th generation mobile networks (4G).

4. Interfaces and protocols of mobile 4G networks.

5. The architecture of the 5th generation mobile networks (5G).

6. Interfaces and protocols of mobile 5G networks.

7. The architecture of a mobile network core (IMS).

8. Service provisioning in mobile networks.

9. Smart cards.

10. Smart cards in mobile networks.

11. Roaming.

12. Authentication in mobile networks.

13. Security in mobile networks.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. SIP servers and SIP clients.

2. Creating a network of SIP servers (Voice over IP).

3. Tests of VoIP.

4. Mobile network emulator.

5. Proseminar 5G.

6. 5G network core emulation.

7. Tests of the 5G network core.

8. Proseminar IP Multimedia Services (IMS).

9. IMS core emulation.

10. Tests of IMS.

11. Interconnection of IMS and VoIP.

12. Smart cards in MS Windows.
