Synopsis:

Use of MEMS-based technologies and their use in biomedical applications; principles of operation, use in the field of biosensors and bioactuators; use in nanotechnologies.

Requirements:

The teaching of the course is provided by the standard contact form. Completion of the course is an oral exam with written preparation. Teaching of the course can be provided in the form of guided self-study with regular consultations if the number of students is less than 5. Elaboration of a written study on a given professional topic is also required. Completion of two laboratory exercises is a condition for participation in the exam. This must be evidenced by a protocol signed by the student, the leader of the exercise and the guarantor of the course. Protocols will be archived.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.From MEMS to BioMEMS: Basic concepts, interdisciplinarity, scalling, applications.

2.Parameters of biosensors and bioactuators.

3.Physical phenomena and mechanisms (micro and nano) used for the operation of BioMEMS and biosystems.

4.MEMS and BioMEMS systems for biosensors and bioactuators, for biodiagnostics.

5.Smart materials for BioMEMS and biosystems, graphene, biocompatibility, biochips, lab-on-chip, micro and nanorobots, etc.

6.Application of nanotechnologies in biosensors and actuators, microelectrodes - electrochemical and other types, drug-delivery biosystems, micro-arrays and others.

7.Smart electroactive polymer actuators and their use in biosystems (eg for artificial muscles).

8.Biosensors, basic evaluation mechanisms, sensors of enzymes and microbiological substances, DNA/antigen-antibody sensors.

9.Sensors for sensing information at the human body-environment interface.

10.Sensors for monitoring physical and biochemical substances in the blood (gas, flow, pressure, etc.), micro-supply of biosystems of the Energy harvesting type.

1.Practical measurements on biosystems, measurements with biosensors and bioactuators.

2.Measurement of properties of electroactive polymers and sensors for monitoring physical and biochemical substances in blood.
