Supervisor:
Department of Management and Economics
Synopsis:

At present, not only technical and economic parameters, but also environmental impacts are being increasingly taken into account in the development and innovation of products and technologies. It is the importance of environmental protection in companies, approaches, methods, standards and tools for environmental impact assessment of technologies and products that is the dominant part of this subject. Students will learn to apply methods for assessing the impact of products throughout their life cycle - the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method for environmental impact assessment and the Life Cycle Costing (LCC) method for economic impact assessment). The evaluation itself is carried out with the help of environmental models processed in a specialized software tool to support LCA SimaPro and economic models created in MS Excel. Students will learn to create and work with these models.

Requirements:

Active participation, elaboration of seminar papers and their presentation

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Development of approaches to environmental protection (crisis models, international conferences and measures, sustainable development concept)

2.Global environmental challenges, negative impacts on the environment

3.Impact of materials processing, industrial processes and products on the environment (negative aspects and eco-data of materials, technologies and products), Cleaner production, ecodesign, eco-audit.

4."Environmental management in industrial enterprises (ISO 14 000 and EMAS II series standards),

environmental legislation."

5.Environment. modeling 1: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method - determination of the goal and scope of analysis, functional unit, system boundaries, evaluated system scheme, inventory analysis (LCIA), SimaPro program, creation of environment models.

6.Environment, modeling 2 - processing of LCA outputs, evaluation and interpretation of results - different categories of impacts.

7.Economic modeling 1- Life Cycle Costing, principles and procedures of cost modeling

8.Economic modeling 2 - application of sensitivity analysis, Break-even point analysis in the situation of input uncertainty

9.Economic efficiency of environmental investments

10.Sustainable Business Development and GR Standard

11.Economic and legislative instruments of active environmental policy and their impacts (fees, taxes, subsidies, CAFE standard),

12.Models of environmental economics, methods of off-market valuation, quantification of damage caused by environmental pollution

13.Repetition

Syllabus of tutorials:

1.Dependence on material resources, models of resource consumption development, reserves, mining economy, renewable and non-renewable resources

2.Environment in the Czech Republic - group work, preparation of the presentation of the state of the individual components of the environment in the Czech Republic

3.Working with ecodata of materials

4.Application of ISO 14000 standards in selected companies

5.The role of LCA - water meter - mechanical and electronic, used materials and their demands. Working in Sima Pro.

6.Presentation of LCA - team work task

7.Presentation of LCA - liteary research

8.Creation of LCC model

9.Sensitivity analysis in LCC

10.Own task presentation - LCC modeling

11.Creation of GR standard

12.Economic efficiency of environmental investments

13.Presentation

Study Objective:

The aim is to acquaint students with the tools of environmental protection in companies, to teach students to apply LCA and LCC methods in the design and innovation of products and processes.
