The subject deals with the following topics - the concept of design and its definition, basic concepts of design theory, design classification, function of design. Design as a science, design process, design approaches, design methods. Design analysis. Design and marketing, brand policy. Perspective view, geometric forms, problems of shape perception and composition. Ergonomics - definitions, terms. The role and place of ergonomics in design. Ergonomics in the workplace. Human (patient) - its physical characteristics, dimensions, human body, sensations and perceptions, reflexes, human psychological characteristics, interpersonal relationships, voluntary act, motivation, efficiency, work organization. Handicap. Human and medical product. Aids, instruments and tools. Climate conditions. Lighting. Noise. Vibration and shock. Safety. Interior of medical facility (color, lighting, materials). Universal design / Design for all, 7 basic principles. Design of medical devices, principles of design in healthcare.


Requirements for assessment award: presentation, defense and submission of a project (design) focused on medical technology or equipment, developed in SolidWorks environment, including abstract in English, including technical parameters and dimensions, range to 2 A4, all including pictures + technical drawings of complete set with previews, according to selected topic, in electronic form. Work will be submitted by the deadline specified in the first exercise. One absence without compensation is allowed.

1. In the exercises students will use SolidWorks software to realize the design of health care device/facility, according to the choice of topics for processing case studies. A) Design of a hospital bed, B) Design of a prosthesis (forelegs, hind limbs or articulation), C) Design of a self-service bed, D) Design of a wheelchair for the disabled, E) Design of ergonomic chair, F) Design (parts) of medical device, G) Design of medical facility for handicapped.

2. Introduction to creating technical documentation. Views in technical documentation. Standardization in technical documentation. Determination of shape and dimensional parameters in image documentation. Creation of technical documentation. Prescribing quality parameters in technical documents. Drawing documentation of simple shapes.

3. SolidWorks environment (basic concepts, creation of new documents, basic concepts, toolbars, FeatureManager design tree, PropertyManager, ConfigurationManager, keyboard shortcuts, graphics area, right mouse button, methods of selection, displaying and manipulating parts, assemblies and drawings, standard views, view modes, task pane, add-ins, system options).

4. Sketch (sketch, open sketch, sketch plane selection, grid, sketch modes, PropertyManager, cursor symbols, entity manipulation, sketch dimensions, sketch relationships, sketch geometry state, sketch termination, sketch creation). Reference geometry (reference geometry commands, creation of planes, axis.

5 Parts (features - commands, modeling, extruded boss, extruded cut, sketch plane edit, sketch edit, revolved boss, revolved cut, fillet, hole guide, edit color, join profile, curve drag add, curve drag remove, bevel, shell, rib, linear pattern, mirror, radial pattern, curve pattern, fill pattern, body combination, configuration, equation, split, move / copy bodies, material selection, custom properties)

6. Sheet metal (sheet metal environment, base plate / tab, bend allowance, tab, sheet metal FeatureManager tree, unfold, edge edging, hem profile change, side bend trimming, closed corner, unloading, edge hem, sheet metal mirroring, bend from sketch, chamfer / cut corner, straighten, bend, yaw, flange, cut, insert bends, without bends, sheet metal connection, sheet metal drawings, forming tool, mounting element - vent hole).

7. Surfaces (surface creation commands, extruded surface, planar surface, straight surface, drawn surface, stapled surfaces, surface joined from profiles, patch, rotated surface, extend surface)

8. Assemblies (assembly creation commands, assembly creation, inserting a part into an assembly, assembly constraints, motion simulation, part modeling in an assembly, standard part libraries - Toolbox, part edit, exploded view)

9. Drawings of parts (creating a drawing, opening a new drawing, commands for creating drawings, displaying a part on a drawing)

10. Assembly drawings (creation of assembly drawings, assembly section, position numbers)

11. E-drawings (eDrawings module, full user interface mode, simple user interface mode, sending shared files)

12. Presentation of students submitted case studies.
