Outline:
.The enviromental action on surface. Categories of surface treatments and their history. Decorative layers and paints.
.Surface modifications of material: surface preconditioning, grinding, polishing, blasting, shot-peening, etching, surface quenching, conversion layers, galvanic metallization, ladding, ion implantation, ...
.Thin layers: PVD, CVD, Magnetron sputtering
.Themal and cold spray – echnologies, proces parameters, proces diagnostics, materials applications
.Application of coatings :(thermal barrier coatings, abrasion resistant and abradable coatings, corrosion resistant coatings, nuclear fusion materials, ...), biomedical coatings
.The peculiarities of coating chracterization (stress-strain, microhardness, phase composition, porosity, functional properties)
.Laboratory work and excursions (anodizing, basic characterization of selected coatings, visits to spray labs at IPP CAS, and surface modification companies)
.Application seminar: students present the review of selected area of surface modification.
