Theory of flow of water in variably saturated porous media. General flow equation, capacity and diffusivity forms, initial and boundary conditions. Methods of solution, numerical simulation models. The applicability in natural conditions. Soil hydraulic properties, hysteresis effects, advanced measurement techniques, data processing software, theory of capillary models, inverse optimisation programs, practical and theoretical weaknesses of the methods, reliability control, spatial and temporal variability. Heterogeneity and preferential flow. Reviw of relevant literature, the topics will relate to the field of disertation of a particular student.
