Synopsis:

The subject deals with project management, its purpose, concepts and tools. Emphasis is placed on resource planning, allocation of resources to tasks, duration and change, monitoring of project progress, re-planning of work in progress, etc. The course also includes project visualization, formatting of tables and graphs, form displays, calendar display, network diagram, resource diagram, custom display options etc. Students further elaborate a fictitious project using current software tools to support project management.

Requirements:

Examination is conditional on active participation in seminars, maximum two absences without excuse and further elaboration of team work including its successful defense. The final test is written in the field of lectures and exercises. The final evaluation corresponds to the ECTS classification. A minimum of 50 points (from 100 possible) must be obtained for successful completion of the course.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introductory lesson. Essence of project management. Basic concepts for project management. Objectives, Scope, Benefits and Risks. Project Management phases.

2. Life cycle of the project, milestones in project management. Project management standards. Logical Framework Matrix.

3. Project Planning Methods and Tools, WBS, Gantt Chart, Network Analysis, PERT Method, Critical Path Method.

4. Project team, role of project manager. Planning human resources. How to Build an Effective Team, Prince 2 and PMBOK. Agile approach. Crisis communication.

5. Budgeting methods and tools. Estimation of expenses. Mathematical calculations and estimation. Risks and Reserve Resources of the Project. Budget Drawing Plan.

6. Financing the project from grant programs. Influence of limited resources. A compromise between time and cost. Typical problems.

7. Other funding opportunities for projects.

8. Project management – Case Study.

9. Project tracking tools. Risk analysis in project management (RIPRAN)

10. Project management process. Changes. How to proceed with project changes. Problem solving.

11. Completion of the project within its lifecycle. Reasons for completing the project.

12. Small projects, new product development projects.
