- Synopsis:

The course provides a basic orientation in the theory and practice of the field of conservation seals. From a broad range of topics of cultural heritage care and in accordance with the focus of the Master's degree on the protection and restoration of monuments, the course focuses on the care of the built heritage, historic settlements and cultural landscape. The lectures include, among other topics, specific conservation methods, monument restoration and crafts.
- Requirements:

Submission and presentation of the seminar thesis within the prescribed time and scope.
Compulsory attendance at classes, especially workshops and excursions, maximum 3 excused absences.
Continuous correction of work and checking during the course.
The above requirements are necessary but not sufficient conditions for successful completion of the course.
- Syllabus of lectures:

1.-3. History of conservation.
4.-5. Historical survey of buildings.
6-7. Technical survey of buildings.
8.Finishing and colouring of monuments (restoration methodology).
9.Traditional lime technologies.
10.Methodology of restoration of folk architecture.
Excursions: e.g. Centre of Building Heritage Plasy, Bečov Castle, etc.
- Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Familiarization with the organization of the exercises and the method of assignment of partial semester tasks.
2. Selection and assignment of the topic of the term paper to individual students.
3. - 4. Preparation of research/materials on the selected topic, photo documentation, consultation.
5. Presentation of the prepared topic.
6. Submission of the term paper (in digital form) in the credit week (upload on the course page).

The aim of the course is to increase the competence of students of Architecture and Civil Engineering in the care of historical architecture and knowledge of the basic requirements and assumptions of historic preservation.
