The aim of the course is an introduction into principles of design of concrete ans masonry bridges. The course involves also corresponding problems from terminology, arrangement and loads on bridges up to design of various types of concrete bridge structures and technology of their construction.

The course 133BK02 to be finished prior final exam of 133BM1K starts.
- Syllabus of lectures:

1.Classification of bridges, bridge nomenclature, spatial arrangement, bridge superstructure and equipment
2.Basic principles of bridge design, system of technical and legal regulations in bridge construction.
3.Loads on bridges
4.Use of prestressed and post-tensioned concrete in bridge construction, specifics of design and implementation of prestressed structures
5.Bridge substructure and bridge bearings - Basic methods and specifics of bridge foundation, bridge substructures and their parts, specifics of bridge design, implementation and maintenance, bridge bearings, bridge joints (see OM01), integral bridges.
6.Stone, masonry and plain concrete bridges - Static action, basic design principles, specifics of implementation and maintenance.
7.Slab bridges - Static action, basic design principles, specifics of implementation and maintenance.
8.Beam Bridges - Types and static action of beam bridges, basic design principles, specifics of implementation and maintenance.
9.Precast Structures (precast beams) - Basic principles of prefabricated structures, history and present, specifics of design and implementation.
10.Precast Structures (segmental bridges) - Basic principles of prefabricated structures, history and present, specifics of design and implementation.
11.Arch Bridges - Types and static action of arch bridges, basic design principles, specifics of implementation and maintenance.
12.Bridge Construction - Methods and specifics of bridge construction (trusses, extensions, fly-casting and erection, suspension) and their influence on bridge design.
13. Assessment and management of bridges, repair and reconstruction of bridges - Load capacity of bridges (road bridge vs. railway bridges), basic principles of determining load capacity and transmissibility, registration and management of bridges in the Czech Republic, system of ensuring traffic safety, historical approaches in the field of bridge design. Basic principles for designing repairs, reconstruction and strengthening of bridges.
